The Open University of Sri Lanka (OUSL) is a premier national university which offers academic programs through open and distance learning methodologies. 

Established in 1980 under the University Act Number 16 of 1978, it enjoys the same legal and academic status as other national universities in Sri Lanka. The OUSL offers multiple exit qualifications ranging from certificate through to doctorate-level degrees as well as a large number of short-courses for upskilling in various disciplines.

The OUSL is open for all and any individual over 18 years of age can enrol. The University's vision to provide opportunities for lifelong learning to every citizen in Sri Lanka is well aligned with the implementation of Open Educational Resources to support learners in achieving their educational goals.
